Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
With African, French, Arabic and Amerindian influences, the food and culture of Haiti are fascinating subjects to explore. From the days of slavery to present times, traditional Haitian cuisine has relied upon staples like root vegetables, pork, fish, and flavour enhancers like Pikliz (picklese, or hot pepper vinegar) and Zepis (ground spices). This cookbook offers over 100 Haitian recipes, including traditional holiday foods and the author's favourite drinks and desserts. Information on Haiti's history, holidays and celebrations, necessary food staples, and cooking methods will guide the home chef on a culinary adventure to this beautiful island. Recipe titles are given in English, Creole, and French.

4 out of 5 stars Very Informative   March 3, 2008
Marie (New York, New York)
This is a great book and very affordable. I grew up in a Haitian household but I didn't watch my mom in the kitchen. Now I have the opportunity to cook like her....

5 out of 5 stars I love haitian food!   April 15, 2007
Supaflyii (MD United States)
My hubby and I are both of African West Indian decent. My husband is haitian-american but does not know to cook haitian food! How awful. So, I bought this book for him and he agrees that all of the recipies and ingrediants are authentic from the spices to the names of the meals the selves. It smells and taste wonderful just like his mothers. Finally, he is cooking the haitian food i love!

1 out of 5 stars Disappointed   March 5, 2007

I am not Haitian. Having said that the recipes did not help. I tried to make one of the recipes and it did not taste like it said. My husband said maybe certain things are implied but recipes are supposed to be instructional. I actually found other recipes that came out phenomenally elsewhere.
