5 out of 5 stars Gospel of Matthew   November 23, 2008
Mark Trout
Excellent presentation of the life of Jesus as presented by the Apostle Matthew. This well acted and directed video demostrated great visuals and settings to assist in the presentation of the New International Version of the scripture. The use of story-telling and drama brings new insights to the familiar message and the enhancement of the message is not dimished by the acting, actors or modern portral. The difficult Passion scenes were tastefully and effectively presented without undo violence and graffic images. The portrayal of the Transfiguration, resurrection and many miracles were well handled and appropriately believeable without special effects. Well done and highly recommend this treatement of the scripture for both education and inspiration.

5 out of 5 stars The best one of the visual Bibles   October 11, 2008
Betty L. Miller (Hendersonville, NC)
I don't know why people like The gospel of John better. I never had. Matthew is so much better. I saw an edited version of Matthew on tbn in '94 and thought it was great. and bought the 4 tape vhs in '96. and got the dvd in 2000. Matthew portrayel of Jesus was unlike any portrayel I ever saw before. from his tender compassion to jolly sense of humor to his serious side. Bruce does a great job of acting. A must see.

but when John came out in '03, it wasn't anything like Matthew. I was highly disappointed. He wasn't half as jolly as Bruce. I guess I was expecting something like Matthew.

5 out of 5 stars Jesus smiles!   September 7, 2008
Daniel Newell (Pacific Northwest)
Too often, Jesus has been portrayed as stiff, overly serious and moody. Not here! Jesus is portrayed here as funny, friendly, compassionate, serious at times ... and yet free to smile and occasionally deliver lines with a wink. This helps put many passages of Matthew into perspective and illuminates his intended meaning. This movie is a must see for all who want to get to know Jesus better. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars A laughing, happy Jesus...   July 19, 2008
Mary E. Arnold (Northwest Illinois)
My husband and I really enjoyed this movie! We have three different movie portrayals of Jesus Christ, which are completely consistent with their respective Gospels, and we enjoy all of them. (Read my other reviews if you're interested in them.)

The happy, laughing Jesus in this movie is intriguing. The way he speaks to people and looks at them warmly portrays his love for everyone. I think the actor really does a great job of portraying the duality of Jesus, how much he loves us, but yet that all is not hearts and flowers and warm and fuzzy due to the human condition.

If you're looking for a great movie to share with friends, family, small group, etc., this is it! Don't watch late at night because you'll want to stay awake!
