Editorial Reviews:

Description
OVER CALIFORNIA is an exhilarating journey above a landscape of contrast. Photographed entirely from the air over the course of a year, powerful high-altitude images reveal the special beauty and magic of the mountains, deserts, vineyards, coastline and cities that are the state of California.

The intimate sense of place is enhanced by the original stereo soundtrack. OVER CALIFORNIA was originally shot in High-Definition Television. To retain its panoramic perspective, it is presented in letterbox format for home television use.

4 out of 5 stars Over California   November 16, 2006
J. Webb (San Jose, CA USA)
I very much enjoyed the this product! It was shot over ten years ago and hits all the regions of state. After viewing it, the viewer will have a great sense of the wide variety and phyiscal beauty of California. The program shows cities, mountains, valleys, rural areas, coastlines, everything. The music for each region shown and narration further adds enjoyment of the aerial tour. The program appears to have been shot in high defintion video so there is great clarity in the pictures themselves. If you want to get a good sense of what California physically looks like, this one-hour program will meet or exceed that expectation. I highly recommend it.

1 out of 5 stars Missed California's natural beauty   May 15, 2006

This video glossed over much of California's natural beauty and
instead focused on buildings, freeways, and football stadiums.
They gave the impression of showing California region by region,
but in reality they jumped back and forth, going from the south
coast to the central coast, then back south again. Many of the
pictures were unlabeled; we eventually decided that they really
didn't know what they had taken pictures of!

If you want to look at cities, freeways, and football stadiums
for an hour, this video is for you. If you want to see an hour
filled with California's majestic natural beauty, you'll be
very disappointed.

3 out of 5 stars Great Content, Poor Video Quality   February 25, 2006

This is a standard-definition version of material originally shot in high definition. When seen in high-def, the vistas and scenery are breathtaking, so this standard-def version is very disappointing.

Time for the releasing company to insist on a new, high-def transfer from the original material.

3 out of 5 stars An excellent aerial special interest film   December 18, 2005

Over California, as well as the entire "over" various other States series of aerial documentaries are breath-takingly excusite. However, once you have seen any of these series in the orignal High Definition format, even a pristine DVD rendition is a bit of a let-down. In any event, it is still a worthwhile purchase. I can't wait for the arival of the entire series on the High Definition format (as soon as a format finally arrives). Having a HD-Recorder and capturing any of these series of aerial films via HD satellite or HD-cable is the ultimate way to go for now.

There is a problem with the DVD, it freezes up right in the middle of the documentary.
