To know the origin of "Snoochie-Boochies," you must spend An Evening with Kevin Smith. The Jersey-bred auteur of low-budget comedy proves equally adept as an uncensored raconteur, regaling five college audiences--his most devoted demographic--in this two-disc compilation of lively Q&A. Sporting his trademark slacker garb, Smith occasionally bites the loyal, sometimes moronic hands that feed him (as a result, audience participation is drop-dead hilarious), but he's arguably the most publicly and personally honest filmmaker to survive the insanity of Hollywood. His best stories lift the veil of show-biz decorum, describing absurd meetings with studio executives over his ill-fated screenplay Superman Lives; razzing the artsy pretensions of director Tim Burton; or exposing Prince (who hired him to direct a never-completed documentary) as a self-absorbed Jesus freak. These attacks aren't baseless; Smith's too smartly good-natured to provoke without purpose, and with an onstage visit by Jason Mewes ("Jay" to Smith's "Silent Bob"), this ribald, sharply assembled Evening compares favorably to Richard Pryor with its outrageous blend of comedy and candor. --Jeff Shannon

2 out of 5 stars Sophomore Slump, Lunchbox   October 29, 2008
J. Combs (USA)
I had high hopes for this set. I thought the first one was hilarious, and the Superman/Jon Peters and Prince stories were priceless. This second set just doesn't have the same chops. Smith rambles more but ends up in fewer places, and the "topical" material seemed very dated, even when it was first released. Affleck's career meltdown, ranking on "Jersey Girl" and "Gigli", bagging Mel Gibson and "Passion of the Christ" - it all might have been interesting 18 months earlier when people were actually talking about that stuff, but even when this was released, it just seemed kind of boring and irrelevent. If that's all the material available to work with, there should have been a push to get this set out sooner so that it didn't come off like thumbing through old copies of "Entertaiment Weekly" in your doctor's waiting room. I love Kevin Smith, "Clerks II" is genius, but this set is a snoozer. If you want an entertaining evening with Kevin Smith, rent the "Clerks II" set and wallow in the terrific documentary and bonus features.

5 out of 5 stars Oh My FREAKIN GOD!!   October 1, 2008
Jessie C. Hammond (Brunswick, Ohio)
If you enjoy anything by Kevin Smith, be it a movie, comic, article or musing, this is a must have. Almost 4 hours, on two disc, of Q&A with Silent Bob. With a surpirse guest (Snoogins) popping in to field some questions, this is non-stop laughter. Get Kevin's takes on movies, directors, the back lash of the work he did with Prince, and a rant about Tim (explicative deleated) Horton's. Evening Harder hits just as hard as the Evening with.

5 out of 5 stars If you love Kevin Smith...   August 3, 2008
E. Kissel (Peoria, AZ USA)
I am through the first CD and I really am enjoying these videos. If you love Kevin Smith it is a must have for your collection. Yes, it is funny, but I enjoy hearing where the ideas for his movies come from and what influenced the characters, etc. If you are a fan...put this on your shelf.

5 out of 5 stars Laughs   July 3, 2008
Sara E. Napoleon (jacksonville, nc)
I loved this! I don't have much of a sense of humor and this made me roll with laughter, I had tears I laughed so much. If you love Kevin Smith movies and want further insight into them, this is something you should watch.

5 out of 5 stars Kevin's DVD takes a double impact   June 3, 2008
Sacred Moonfire
Kevin's humor is one only the true fans appreciate. It's not enough to just joke around with friends, but he comes together with millions of strangers and relates to everyone. It is awesome. On both DVDs, he is completely random and hilarious in the great stories he has to share. Definitely a recommended buy for the Kevin Smith fan in all of us!
