Terrible November 5, 2008 emma (East Coast) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have the Strong King James Concordance and wanted an NASB to supplement the words that are different. I opened the box and thought I bought the wrong book. The King James concordance is 2.75 inches thick; this one is 1.5 The paper is as thin as Bible paper, very fragile. The words of Christ are not red. But THIS is the problem: 1 line, bare bones definitions. For example, I am in a John Bible study and learned that the word for 'signs'(semeion 4592)in John specifically means 'signs and wonders to prove Jesus's divinity'. It isn't used in that sense in any other book of the Bible. Look up semeion in the King James concordance and the listing goes on for several columns with it's specific uses described in a variety of passages. Look it up in this book and you get the definition - "a sign". Word after word has nothing more than 1 line of definition. The entire Greek dictionary is only 76 pages. How the reviewers said this is a wonderful tool is beyond me. You'd get better definitions looking them up free on the Internet.
Just okay September 26, 2008 SK (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a handy tool for finding the definitions of some words that are in the NASB but not in the KJV. However, even though I study in the NASB, I still like to look up words in the original Strong's (KJV version) concordance from the KJV. The original Strong's has definitions that are MUCH more thorough, and I get a lot more information from the Strong's than from this NASB concordance.
Strongest Concordance for the Updated NASB June 18, 2007 Jaeger (Augusta, GA USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
If you use the Updated NASB this concordance is almost a "must have." It gives you a list of every word one could use to find a verse as well as the Hebrew, Aramaic, or Greek word underlying the English translation. It allows you to see for yourself the original word and the ways it has been translated and the number of times it has been translated that way.
A Pastor's Thoughts: For the Right Person -- IT'S GREAT May 21, 2007 John C. Hendrickson (Mankato, MN USA) 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
I don't use Strong's Concordance anymore. After years of classes in the Biblical languages I don't need it. However, for years while in college when I was first beginning serious study of the Bible on my own and encountering different theologies and interpretations of passages, Strong's was my daily companion. If you don't have the luxury (or for some the burden) of having studied the Biblical languages, but you want to begin to do serious study of the Bible on your own, then there is no real substitute for Strong's. There are plenty of other very helpful reference works, but nothing fills the niche that it does. Now that my wife has begun study like this on her own I enthusiastically bought this for her. Happily, Strong's has been updated so that Bible students are not tied to the King James Version as they once were. I am not at all suggesting you give up other word studies or helps or commentaries, but Strong's is an important step towards serious, independent Bible study. If this is where you are at, then make sure Strong's is one of your frequently used reference works.
Great complement for serious bible student using NASB May 8, 2007 A. Frances Werner (St. Louis Missouri) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
If you're using the NASB, don't fool with any other concordance. This is it.
