Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Before they focus in on their native language, babies have an amazing ability to hear and absorb sounds that adults unconsciously block out, like the subtleties of a foreign language. Baby’s First Words in Chinese is an introduction to the sounds of Chinese and “locks in” a child's ability to learn these sounds.

Created by linguistic experts, Baby’s First Words in Chinese is designed for newborns to toddlers up to two years old. Each package includes:

60 minute CD of sweet and soothing songs, rhymes, words and stories
Parents’ guide that explains how children learn languages
Lyric sheet so that parents can sing along to the songs on the CD with their children

my wife and i can only offer glowing remarks for this product. our 5 week old is calmed by the music and poetry offered on the cd. the accompanying literature explaining language acquisition is fascinating, as well.

This is a GREAT product. I am really impressed. Even though the product is intended for 0-2 year olds, I bought it for my 26 month old son who has a mandarin-speaking babysitter. I am so happy I did. The CD is basically what I hoped for. Lots of great songs and rhymes, but what I didn't expect was how great the booklet that accompanies it would be. It shows how well researched and organized they were when they put this product together. I have been teaching Chinese graduate students English as a Second Language for 10 years and I'm convinced if they had had this product as babies and toddlers their perception and production of English would be better today. You will not be disappointed!

4 out of 5 stars Great, but could be better...   April 4, 2008

This CD has great audio quality and great content. My girls like it just fine. I didn't give it 5 stars because I feel, as a native Chinese Madarin speaker, some of the musical arrangements are kind of weird. Also, some of the nursery rhymes that I grew up with are butchered (either incomplete or completely changed). But overall, it's a great first CD for the little ones to be exposed to the language.

5 out of 5 stars Good Variety In This Introduction   March 3, 2008

Pleasantly surprised with the accompanying written material included with this CD. It provides a broad overview of Mandarin that can be played for a newborn to expose the child to the language at several levels.

My baby loves this CD. She is 4 months old and loves to listen as we bounce and play with her. It is amazing how much she seems to zone into the music and speech. Time will tell if this is helping her learn Chinese, but she is really listening and hopefully picking up the sounds of the chinese language.
