A good start January 21, 2008 Gary Selikow (Great Kush) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is an almost perfect guide for beginners, designed for students as well as newcomers to Israel such as tourists. It consists of a basic grammar framework explanation, a Hebrew-English, English-Hebrew dictionary, which introduces you to basic vocabulary, although it is not as comprehensive as one might have hoped. For a comprehensive Hebrew-English, English-Hebrew dictionary I would suggest The Oxford English-Hebrew Dictionary. The third section of the book consists of a Hebrew phrasebook for various topics such as Introductions, Etiquette, Enquiries, Transportation, Food and Drink, Farms and Animals, Language and Religion and others. It is worth spending some time memorizing the phrases so while you will still not be fluent in Hebrew you can at least start to get around. A good start. Will help you basically getting around in Israel, but after mastering this you will need further tools.
Hebrew-English dictionary: a handy little book July 8, 2007 Happy reader Hirschkatz (Ohio) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Hebrew-english Dictionary& Phrasebook came in handy on my recent trip to Israel. It is not thorough or comprehensive (it can't be at that size), but is small enough to tote around, put in a bag, etc., and has a lot of handy phrases & words. All i n all, it was useful.
Fatal Flaw January 3, 2002 Laura (Portland, OR) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I wanted to learn Hebrew, so I got myself this book--the only Hebrew dictionary I could find. Although it got me off to a good start, the dictionary has a fatal flaw that I didn't find out about until later in my Hebrew studies: the author doesn't include vowels! This made me dependent on the phonetic English, when I wanted to start working on reading Hebrew. Other than that, though, it was fine.
