More Hebrew words than the 2007 edition October 30, 2007 Brian Beckman (Renton, WA USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This version (2006) of Zilberman's dictionary has more Hebrew words and fewer English words than the newer (2007) version. The print is a little larger here than in the newer one, also. The print quality in both these dictionaries is MUCH sharper than the print in the cheap American paperbacks (Bantam-Megiddo and Ben-Yehuda). It seems the Israeli presses prefer heavy, bright-white, thick paper over the porous, fibrous, bleedy newsprint paper preferred by the American producers.
The Compact Up To Date Hebrew English Dictionary October 10, 2007 Meir L. Gunsher I use this dictionary very frequently to help translate various Hebrew texts whether modern or from antiquity. It is easy to use and contains many entries. It also has an English Hebrew part in which you can cross check nuances of the word usage. This particular volume is excellent because you can carry with you anywhere. For home use I have a two volume hard cover Hebrew English dictionary to do my work. This consise single volume paperback version gives me the same results as the two volume set.
The best of a bad lot July 24, 2003 Gregory Olsen (San Ramon, CA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This dictionary is the best of a bad lot of english-hebrew/hebrew-english dictionaries. It is more current than many other dictionaries. Although the Internet age hasn't penetrated this dictionary. The same thing goes for the other 6 dictionaries have used. This dictionary includes more slang than any other that I have used. This is a good thing. In everyday communication you encounter so many words that are not taught in ulpan. Of course, slang changes a lot, so you can't expect a dictionary to be complete, however, at least there is more slang and idiomatic usage in this dictionary. The failing that this dictionary has, is that it does not include the plural forms of words when they are irregular. This is a real problem. Other dictionaries, like the NTC dictionary do a better job of that.
Great choice for a compact dictionary April 7, 2003 Shelley Shay (Denton, TX **(God Bless the USA!!)**) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
With over 55,000 entries, including idioms and slang, this is one of the better English-Hebrew/Hebrew-English dictionaries I've seen. The print is small, but the printing quality is superb. The paper is a fine-milled "bright white" paper, with true black printed text that is crisp and easily defined. The Hebrew is pointed and contains all vowels - which is really required for a reference that has an audience of those new to the language. The Hebrew is pointed in both halves of the book, so English readers needing to look up a Hebrew word to find its English definition will find it that much faster. This book is not perfect... it says it is "Up-to-Date" but doesn't include such words as "SPAM," "Internet," or "e-mail." Considering the limited offering of such dictionaries, however, this one stands out as one of the best (so far).
