Product Description Barron s is today and always has been the Number-One reference source for verb usage in virtually every major language. It s printed in two colors, it features tinted page edges for ease of reference, and it comes with extra help for Italian language students in the form of a CD-ROM. The book presents the most important and most commonly used Italian verbs arranged alphabetically with English translations in chart form, one verb per page, and conjugated in all persons and tenses, both active and passive. The accompanying CD-ROM gives students practice exercises in verb conjugation plus a concise grammar review. This combined book and software package is a comprehensive guide to Italian verb usage with a wealth of reference material and language tips, including a bilingual list of more than 1,250 additional Italian verbs, helpful expressions and idioms for travelers, and verb drills and short tests with all questions answered and explained.

What in the *U)#+%@!? December 12, 2008 Joseph J. Lamarca (Seattle, WA USA) The 1st verb that I attempted to find was missing & it is "mancare," which ironically translates to "To miss/lack." I noticed another reviewer stated that "provare" was also absent. These are 2 very common verbs & any compendium of verbs should absolutely have them! Of course, one can help but to wonder how many other common verbs are missing!!!
What this book leaves out November 18, 2008 Prof Tom (Minneapolis) I want to echo and then expand on what another reviewer, JKBonner, criticized about this book. The authors' failure to indicate stresses on deviating syllables is a grave weakness. And here's the strange thing: Barron's also publishes a smaller compendium of 300 Italian verbs entitled Barron's Italian Verbs in which the same authors supply accent marks for these deviant stresses! I can understand their worry that the reader may assume that therefore these deviating marks are normally written out in Italian. Unlike Spanish, they aren't. But as JKBonner pointedly says, "The authors of this book should have used some means to indicate where the stress falls in various verbs deviating from the rule." For example, they could have underlined the deviantly stressed syllable. It is also a grave weakness that the Italian names for the tenses are not given for each verb, as they are in the other books in the Barron's 501 Verbs series. My advice: don't buy this book. Buy the smaller 300 verb edition. That number will suffice for virtually all purposes. Also, it is much cheaper.
501 Italian Verbs October 2, 2008 Dr. O. (Salem, MA) Wonderful book especially for the irregular verbs. Plan to make use of it when I fly to Venice October 5th.
Best Help Ever March 17, 2008 E. Saenz This book is awesome. It has everything you need if you are a student taking italian or if you just need to refresh your memory every once in a while. I used it so much and I can't think of a better tool for a language class. I would recommend any taking a foreign language to get a 501 book.
Everything and More January 23, 2008 Fall Winter dog (Eastern Switzerland) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book is great for someone looking for a definitive verb reference. It is my third 501 Verbs book from Barron's. The first one I bought as an advanced language lerner, but find it a great resource for a beginner as well. The only thing that would make this book better is if they had a page with mini sticky labels that you could use to mark reference points in the book.
