From someone who has recently started to learn farsi February 24, 2008 Animal Lover (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have recently started to learn Farsi - including reading and writing. I find this book useful in helping build my vocabulary, particularly the flash cards at the end of the book. However, the other activities that include the knowledge of reading and writing will sure be more useful once I learn the Farsi alphabet which does take time.
for learning script, not for speaking, no pronunciation help! January 3, 2008 Nuke Quazar 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book focuses on teaching the script, and gives absolutely no help with pronunciation, which is the hardest thing about learning farsi for "total beginners." There are no dictionary pronunciation symbols or similar sounding words as examples -- I mean, really, NO PRONUNCIATION HELP AT ALL. You need to have a persian friend sitting with you, teaching you pronunciation as you go through this book, otherwise you will be laughed at when you try to speak. the book says it has "pronunciation tips," but they don't exist. the authors should look at a dictionary to see how pronunciation is conveyed in text.
100 Words in Persian September 10, 2007 Millie Atkins 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book helps a person learn Farsi and, besides, it's fun. The flashcards are a very good idea. Use it as part of your library for learning Farsi.
a great way to learn basic farsi vocab December 29, 2006 RaspberryH (Mountain View, CA) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
If you're just starting to learn Farsi and you're looking to learn very basic Farsi vocab, then this is a good choice. There are multiple exercises for each group of vocab, which really helps the learning process. I wish they'd make more books like this, especially ones for sentence building. But this is really good for just vocab.
Your First 100 Words in Persian November 10, 2006 Michael Hoppe (Fayetteville, Arkansas USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
An excellent starter book if used in conjunction with other tools such as Conversational Farsi CD's by Pimsleur and Lonely Planet Farsi (Persian) Phrasebook. Not an end in itself, but a very good workbook for using in those spare moments we all try to capture.
