give your Skycaddie away... get the Golf Buddy!!! December 19, 2008 D. Yang (Fairfax, VA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had a Skycaddie3 and I thought it was great... until I saw the Golfbuddy. I have the Golfbuddy Tour (color) and I love it. I used to have to download courses on the SC3 anytime i'm travelling and it was getting to be a pain, since I travel alot. But the Golfbuddy, i never have to download course ever again. It comes with 20,000 course already built-in. I gave the SC3 away without remourse. It comes with rechargeable batteries but you can always use AA batteries if the rechargeable runs out... what a great idea. I never write reviews, but I gladly made an exception this time...
So far so good February 27, 2008 Robert A. Amber (Portland, OR) I returned the iGolf GPS because it kept turning itself off every few yards of play. Very annoying. Wal-Mart refunded my full purchase price, no problem. Besides it was not capable of automatically recognizing hole so there is button pushing every hole. Now I purchased this GolfBuddy GPS from an eBay vendor. There is no refund possible. But I have used it for 2 rounds of 18 holes and it worked pretty much as advertised. The manual has no instructions on how to download course data, but the customer service was very helpful in walking me through it. After loading my home course into the unit, I turned the unit on and it recognized my course. It knows what hole you are playing so there is no need to push any buttons while playing. On couple of holes it did not change hole number, but the procedure to change holes is quick. Just toggle right until correct hole is displayed and OK it by clicking the same button straight down. The unit did change 16 holes automatically. It was quite accurate on 17 holes so I called the customer service and they said they will fix the problem in 2 or 3 days and then I can download the new data. [...] The unit is very light, fits in my shirt pocket, and has rechargeable batteries built in, so no need to stock up on AA batteries. The batteries & charger come with it.
Works Great!! December 9, 2007 L. Carr (Georgia, USA) 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
I was bit leary of purchasing this GPS because I could not find any reviews other than the ones on the Golf Buddy website. It was easy to download the data for my home course and get all set. Once I arrived at the golf course and turned the unit one, it took about 3 minutes to get 3 sats and a little longer to get 5, then automatically selected my course. We have three nines, so while I was at the club house parking lot, it listed the golf course and as I walked to the first nine, it automatically selected correct nine holes, hole number one. I was IMPRESSED. I checked the distance to the green against the GPS installed in one of my partner's golf cart and it was within 1 yard. AMAZING. I noticed a few holes where the accuracy was off by 5 yards or so, but all in all it was pretty much on the spot. As we finished the first nine and crossed over to the back nine, it correctly picked up the right course and hole. A few bunkers on the back nine were not listed, so I will have to add those later. To make changes to any of the data already downloaded though, I will have to validate the data points, upload to Golf Buddy website and then wait for them to publish a change to the course data. This is the main shortcoming of this device. With the Sonocaddie, you can make changes instantly if a marker is off. But then again, the Sonocaddie does not automatically select your course and change holes as you move around the golf course. You do not have to do anything at all to the Golf Buddy unless you want to check bunker or hazard carries. Turn it on, play golf. Oh, and the downloads are absolutely free... no membership required. Amazing device.
