Product Description
An inspiring exploration of the forty most memorable travel destinations in the world.

As travelers become more experienced and sophisticated, they become more discriminating about their destinations. Many are seeking the unusual and avoiding the routine and predictable tours.

Unforgettable Places to See Before You Die takes readers to familiar places, like the Taj Mahal, and lesser known destinations like Lalibela, Ethopia. Three hundred magnificent photographs accompany fascinating essays about each location.

The chapters cover forty destinations ranging from New York City to Petra, Jordan, including: - Australia's Great Barrier Reef - Cambodian temples at Angkor Wat - Scotland's Eilean Donan Castle - Thailand's Grand Palace - Mexico's Pyramid of Kukulacan - Peru's Machu Picchu - Spain's Alhambra - Ecuador's Galapagos Islands.

The book features international destinations for extraordinary scenery, ancient monuments, unusual cultures, rare wildlife, soaring architecture, art and more. The sites range from wilderness areas to cities to uninhabited locations and ruins of past civilizations.

Unforgettable Places to See Before You Die is aimed at adventurous travelers seeking new sights and experiences. It offers insider tips and practical advice for maximizing the enjoyment of each visit such as avoiding crowds, best time of the year to visit and more.

4 out of 5 stars Perfect Gift   August 24, 2008

I was a little thrown off because the cover is a little cheesy, but the book is gorgeous! The pictures inside are stunning, and it has a ton of great information.

I wish there were more places here and more "things to do" sections once you get to those places, but it's a good book to thumb through and make plans, for sure.

4 out of 5 stars Works As A Travel "Tease"   February 10, 2008
Michael Lima (Fresno, California USA)
Steve Davey appears to have further developed a relatively new niche in the travel book field with the publication of Unforgettable Places to See Before You Die. There isn't enough factual information presented to consider this book a travel guide. Likewise, there aren't enough opinions presented to consider it a travelogue. Finally, there aren't enough pictures to consider it a pictorial. However, because elements of all three characteristics are present, it seems appropriate to consider this book a travel "tease."

Fortunately, Unforgettable Places to See Before You Die works as a "tease". Despite some slightly clunky advice (almost every site is described as being best to visit first thing in the morning) and the occasional average picture, there are just enough useful facts and vivid pictures presented to whet the interest of anyone that has remotely considered traveling to the locations described in the book. While certainly not the definitive source regarding information or pictures about these spots, Unforgettable Places to See Before You Die is worth purchasing if approached as a "tease" intended to inspire further interest and research.

3 out of 5 stars Just OK - there are better books out there   January 7, 2008

I didn't think this book was anything special. The writing is not very good, and I didn't think the photography was very good - the places are fantastic, but I think that's the only reason people think the pictures are nice - because the places are nice, not because the skill of the photographer is anything to write home about.

For a REALLY spectacular travel book to inspire you, check out Lonely Planet's book "Travel" - the photos are just incredible, and it will inspire you to start packing your bags.

5 out of 5 stars Great book to read about and visit   July 4, 2007

Even though I had originally planned to purchase the book with a title something like 1000 places to see/visit before you die, I elected to purchase this one after I previewed its photos and layout online. Great book! Great service from Amazon!
