Can't lock it September 20, 2008 Aydin Orstan (Germantown, MD United States) You can't lock it with a TSA approved lock. So you have to either leave it unlocked or put a cable around it & lock the cable. The clips on the sides also have a tendency to pop open. One more thing, the empty suitcase is quite heavy.
Good value June 8, 2008 jmkct (Harwich, MA) Out of the box - my first reaction was flimsy. Bu then took to Chicago and dragged it many, many blocks. Then took to Ireland - not so much ddragging but thanks to United this piece of luggage got to visit Chicago for a couple of days before United located it and sent it back to Reagan. So... it feels light and flimsy and the latches don't inspire confidence. But... it is roomy, light, and has taken plenty of abuse without breaking. Using a pullman after years of wide two wheeled luggage took a little getting used to - but it was suprisingly easy to pull, tracked straight and didn't wobble as much as I expected as I dragged it around (expected it to be very unstable because of the narrow wheel base). So I am very happy. Also got it shipped o/n via Prime as I had an unexpected trip and my other luggage was in a different state! I will continue to use this piece.
Most durable luggage I've ever owned. February 16, 2008 M. Christensen (indiana, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The other reviewer on Amazon that rated this Samsonite Oyster luggage a "1" must have issues. I've had my original Oyster set, that looks identical to the black set being sold currently, for over 19 years and counting. I travel by air several times a year and have never had a bit of trouble with it. However, about a half-dozen soft luggage sets by various manufactures that I have also owned have lost wheels, broken locks and zippers, rips, etc. I'm now adding to that 19 year old set. It may not have cute, trendy looks about it, but it will last for many, many years.
The Oyster is a joke! I laugh everytime I see one at the airport!!!!! January 11, 2008 Litecone (Portland, OR) 10 out of 13 found this review helpful
This is the worst suitcase I have ever seen. It is hilarious watching people struggle to keep the suitcase upright while dragging it at high speed on its small 3" wheels connected to it's narrow 6" wheel base down the center of a crowded airport terminal. Don't people go out and test drive their luggage before they buy it like they would a car?? I guess not. All luggage is not created equal!! Don't waste your time on the Oyster. It was designed by a 3rd grader in the 1980's. The hard plastic sides also make a lot of sense!!!!! The oyster unpacked (weighing 10 lbs.) represents 20% of your typical airline's weight allotment of 50 lbs. at check-in. Wow. Hope you're not planning on getting any souvenirs... You're better off melting it down and adding to your Lego collection if you're one of the unfortunate imbeciles who mindlessly shelled out $200.00 for an overweight bag that is notorious for twisting out of control at high speed--giving the owner's wrist a sharp snap. Before you buy it, be sure to check your health insurance and be ready to shell out $3 for an airport luggage cart wherever you go. P.S. Amazon forced me to give it one star in order to write this scathing review.
arrived broken December 11, 2007 R. Gelca (Texas) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
The size is appropriate for international travel. However the locks are poorly made, and one of them broke while the product was being shipped to me.
